Edging

Edging

Wall-Mounted Cabinets with Sprayed Veneered Drop Flap Doors and a Stone Top, Stone SurfaceWhen an item of furniture we make requires edging, we will usually use a 2 or 3 mm edging banding made from either knock resistant PVC or real wood. This edge banding is far superior to the 0.6 mm banding that you’ll see on mass produced, cheaper furniture. It also allows for the edge to be rounded over thus making it more durable, tactile and user-friendly than sharp-edged items which get damaged easily and look shabby relatively quickly.

The PVC banding comes in in hundreds of finishes, and the real wood comes in the most popular veneers and requires oiling prior to installation. The real wood edging can also look great on melamine or formica panels as well as veneered panels, contrasting the smooth (easily cleaned) factory finish with a real wood look.

When a quality hand crafted look is requires you may wish to opt for solid wood edges that can be profiled if required or could be left plain to simply add depth and individuality. These edges are more labour intensive and cost more in materials, hence are more expensive, but they are a very durable option which can be repaired if needed.

Metal, Staron/plastics, leather, could also be used. If you wanted your edges illuminated this could also be achieved, if you have an idea simply ask and I am sure we could come up with something!
